CASS™ Cycle M
Undeliverable-as-Addressed (UAA) mail costs the postal service $1.6 billion a year. By updating the rules and specifications for CASS™-certified software, the USPS ensures that mailers embrace addressing practices that will reduce the volume of UAA mail, saving themselves and the USPS a great deal of money.
Companies that offer CASS-certified software for address correction and coding will be issuing updates this spring in order to comply with CASS Cycle M. In an effort to assist the mailing industry, the Postal Service has extended the requirement date for CASS Cycle M Certification from July 31, 2009 to September 30, 2009. Among the changes proposed:
- Mailers will have the option to use SuiteLinkTM, which provides suite numbers for business addresses in selective high-rise buildings.
- Updates to rules regarding how Delivery Point Validation is applied
- Ability to abbreviate address lines to meet the new 30-characters per line standard
- Ability to use USPS approved 13-character city abbreviations
