The Opportunity
There are 18 presort tiers for Standard Mail® letters with more than a 300% difference in cost between the lowest and highest rates. Saturation-level Carrier Route rates are the lowest, nonmachinable rates the highest, for Standard Mail®.

Mailstream Best Practices

  • Gain the automation advantage
Qualify for presort automation rates and you can cut postal costs even more.  (You'll need to print a delivery-point barcode on each mailpiece and use an address list that has been validated against USPS databases).
  • Avoid nonmachinable formats
Design your mailpieces for efficient processing and avoid the significant cost increases for nonmachinable mail.

Making it Happen

  • Physically combine print and mail jobs for deeper postal discounts
Pitney Bowes offers a full line of mail sorters which can help mailers with First-Class Mail®, Standard Mail®, letters and flats obtain improved discounts while keeping complete chain of custody of their mail. Our integrated solutions can help streamline your mail submission process with a single submission that serves as a final checkpoint for address verification, meeting move update requirements, and meeting Full Service IMb® barcode and pallet placard requirements.
  • Presort Software
Look for software that is CASSTM certified and PAVETM certified. These features will increase your accuracy and help you comply with USPS requirements.
  • Address Printing
Create a more professional look with a specialized address printer. In addition to printing barcodes, you can add spot color and personalized messages to help ensure more of your mail is opened and read.
  • Let Us Presort for You
Pitney Bowes offers a service for First Class Mail® and Standard Mail® that enables you to qualify for presort discounts without doing the work. Your mail is picked up and transported to our Operating Center where it is checked for quality. Mail is then sorted in zip code destination sequence and placed in trays based on USPS specifications and regulations. We then deliver mail to the designated postal facility - often bypassing local USPS offices. The bottom line is increased savings and speedy delivery.
