Where speed of delivery is less important, package services provide added savings.

The Opportunity
Package Services – including Bound Printed Matter (BPM), Library Mail, Media Mail, Standard Post and Parcel Select® – offer the most economical shipping options. Under the current rates, higher “balloon rates” apply to certain oversized (but lightweight) packages. Large and medium size shippers may be eligible for volume discounts on Parcel Select® service.

Mailstream Best Practices

  • Compare to higher-cost carriers
The USPS package service options may save you money. You can also add services such as USPS TrackingTM, Return Receipt for Merchandise, Signature ConfirmationTM and Collect on Delivery (COD).

Proposed Costs for January 2014

  • Standard Post : general merchandise-rates as low as $5.60
  • Media Mail®: books, tape & media-rates as low as $1.81 (5 digit)
  • Library Mail: schools, libraries & museums-rates as low as $1.72 (5 digit)
  • Bound Printed Matter: catalogs, books with ads-rates based on weight, shape and zone

Compare to expedited delivery
When time is not of the essence, package service options may provide a more economical alternative - they typically deliver in two to nine days.

Avoid balloon-sized ratings
To avoid balloon rates on parcels that weigh less than 20 lbs, the length plus girth (the
circumference) must measure less than or equal to 84 inches.

Making it Happen
  • High-Capacity Scale
Calculate precise rates and fees for USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL parcels - and even for mixed-weight mail.
  • Built-in USPS TrackingTM
Choose a system equipped with IntelliLinkTM technology for USPS TrackingTM, Signature ConfirmationTM, Certified MailTM, and e-Return Receipt.
  • Smart Shipping Solutions
Obtain real-time information from multiple carriers on delivery rates and service levels - and take the guesswork out of selecting carriers and service options.
